The Sunrise Bakery tradition began in 1963, when businessman Gerry Renzenbrink and baker Herman Bodewitz purchased a community bakery and offered customers quality pastries and sheet cakes at affordable prices. The Dutch-born entrepreneurs went door to door, selling their quality baked goods. Renzenbrink began selling yeast-raised donuts to a neighboring grocery store and Sunrise Bakery's wholesale business began. By the end of the 1960's, Sunrise was supplying McGavin Foods and Weston Bakeries in Alberta. A decade later, the bakery sold its hand-made buns and donuts to Weston Bakeries all across western
Canada. In 1978, the rapid growth of Sunrise Bakery's Then in 1993, Sunrise moved again into larger facilities and currently occupies more than 40,000 sq. ft. of production facility, including 10,000 sq. ft. of pallet friendly freezer space. Over the years, Sunrise Bakery has gradually expanded to customers across Canada and the United States. Last year, we produced 220 different product lines, ranging from appetizing muffins to low-fat mouth-watering chocolate brownies, soft buttery dinner rolls to comforting cake donuts. Sunrise Bakery is also carving a niche for it's self in the food service sector, working closely with distributors and retailers to keep up-to-date on the marketplace changes and trends in end-user purchases.
